Cup, mother of pearl with silver-gilt mounts, standing on a slightly domed foot with applied foot rim die-struck with ovolos, rising to a disc supporting a cast stem comprising three scrolling elements each surmounted by a lion head, above these a curved socket with central reeded section, the bowl formed from thirteen curved mother-of- pearl plaques and a central mother-of-pearl disc all held in place by pins, a spreading rim mount with a rope-twist band and a dentilled lower edge stamped with acanthus leaves. An engraved acanthus-leaf section inserted in the rim, perhaps a later repair.
