Jug, pale cream-coloured earthenware with a soft greenish-yellow tinge to the glaze, bulbous body flaring out to the foot-rim and lip-rim, plain beak spout, plain loop handle; transfer-printed in black with to the front of the exterior body the inscription "SUCCESS / TO / AMERICA" enclosed by a wreath of foliage, to one side of the exterior body an oval panel containing a portrait of George Washington surrounded by emblematic figures and the inscriptions "WASHINGTON" and "LIBERTY", the panel surrounded by fifteen stars and scrolling banners inscribed with the names of the states of the Union, to the other side a round panel containing a military scene with soldiers and a sailing boat, the panel surrounded by nautical emblems and a scrolling banner bearing the inscription "BY VIRTUE AND VALOUR...etc". The jug badly broken and repaired.
