Chinese woman and children

Meissen
Meyer, Ferdinand Elias (1724-1761. Started work in Kaendler's workshop in 1748)

Group comprises a seated Chinese woman with two children. She has on her right knee a Chinese boy, head shaven except for two tufts at the ears, holding drum sticks. In her left hand is a porcelain dome. Her face is turned towards the older boy, standing at her left side, also holding drum sticks. Base decorated with modelled coloured flowers and leaves. The woman's three-quarter length robe is white, painted with Indian flowers; pink collar and cuffs and green sash. She has a yellow underdress and red shoes. The older boy wears a pink robe with a yellow sash and grey trousers, the younger a white robe with a purple dotted pattern and green trousers.

This object is from a series of Chinese figure groups modelled at Meissen by Kändler, Reinicke and Meyer from 1750. They were taken from the engravings of 'Les Délices de L' Enfance' by Jean-Joseph Balechou and Francois-Antoine Aveline, after Francois Boucher.
