Black fan with black-lacquered, wooden sticks and guards and a cotton twill leaf printed with pattern of roses and leaves (yellow, brown, green, white, red). Leaf is made up of two layers: reverse layer is of black cotton tabby. However, this fabric has been heavily imprinted with a pattern of narrow stripes at a 45degree angle to the warp/weft direction. This process has flattened the fabric to such an extent that the appearance of the tabby weave is nearly obscured in places and makes it look as though a coating has been applied. Both layers of the leaf have been adhered to the sticks/guards. Bottom edges of both front and back layer of leaf is unfinished. Upper edges are encapsulated by adhered narrow black cotton tabby binding tape. Sticks & guards are held together at bottom with fixing pin over a cream-coloured (bone?) button. A black-lacqured metal suspension hoop has been attached at the same place. 14 sticks and 2 guards
