Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Telegram despatched by David Ladd of Winnipeg enquiring about the fate of his brother, Owen Ladd, following the sinking of the RMS Lusitania. The telegram was received at Clynderwen Post Office at 10:45 on 8 May 1915.
Owen Ladd lost his life when the RMS Lusitania was struck by a German torpedo on 7 May 1915. He was born in 1882, the son of William and Phoebe Ladd, The Mount, Eglwyswrw, north Pembrokeshire. In 1911 he left Wales to join his brother, David, who was a timber merchant in Winnipeg, Canada. In May 1915 he was returning to Wales to visit his family. He was also considering enlisting in the military.
