Jug, earthenware, octagonal pouch-shaped body, tapering at shoulder, ending in a lobed lip rim with raised narrow spout, the spout moulded with spreading acanthus leaf, wishbone handle with raised thumb-spur, lower terminal with foliate-type moulding; transfer printed in brown with overpainted detail in green, puce, blue and browny-yellow, with the 'Canton' pattern, consisting of chinoiserie-style scene of pagoda-type buidings with bridge walkway in foreground with two figures, enclosed within a cartouche of chinoiserie-style, shrub-type foliage, the pattern repeated on both sides, a border of concentric waved circles to lip-rim, issuing foliage and floral motifs, the same border to interior of lip-rim and to upper handle.
