ECM: Llanfrynach; cross slab (replica)

Narrow pillar-stone decorated on one face, with an inscription on the reverse A.Pecked linear designs. 1.. Cross with wedge-shaped arms of equal length; 2.. Unclothed (bearded?) figure with arms raised above head, above the head to the right are a sun and crescent moon; 3. Four-strand plait, beginning as double strands on each side of the figure`s legs, flanked by wavy lines on each side. 4. At the foot of the plait, the strands separate to enclose an elongated cross form, with four symmetrical dots at the crossing; 5.Group of three motifs, two in line above and one below, consisting of two triquetra knots and a bird. On the back, not now visible, Westwood read an inscription in Anglo-Saxon miniscules: IOHIS (=Johannis), but this has been doubted (by MacAlister).

Notes: original monument discovered during the demolition of the old parish church. It is now located fixed to the N. wall of the nave.
