Launched 1943 as LIONEL COPLEY but completed as SAMBRAKE by Bethlehem-Fairfield Shipyards Inc., Baltimore (engine by General Machinery Corp., Hamilton, Ohio), managed for MoWT by Ellerman & Bucknall SS Co., London. 1947 – Sold to Ellerman Lines Ltd (Ellerman & Bucknall) and renamed CITY OF CHELMSFORD. 1959 – Sold to Cia. Nav. Vaptistis, Panama, and converted to a motor vessel. Renamed SAN GEORGE under the Greek flag, managed by Lemos & Pateras, London. 1961 – Registered under the Lebanese flag – same owners. Managers retyled as Lemos & Co., London, from 1963. 1968 – Sold to Suerte Shipping Co., and renamed SUERTE under the Cypriot flag, managed by Papadimitiou, Athens and Famagusta. She was broken up at Split in 1971.
