Our Lord seated in glory. His right hand rests upon the shoulder of the dexter crowned and kneeling figure of St.Oswald. His left hand upon the sinister mitred figure of St.Cuthbert, similarly postured. It is the first appearance of these two saints upon Durham episcopal seals. In base, under a trefoiled arch, the bishop kneels in prayer. The legend is in Leonine rhyming hexameter.
