Bureau of c.1800, restored at a later date but basically sound; sloping lid enclosed section with drop writing flap, six pigeon holes, six miscellaneous small drawers; a central compartment flanked by two vertical drawers, the whole with stringing in bog oak and holly; the lower part has two flap supports flanking two small drawers, above two deeper drawers; there is some restoration to this portion; the original knobs have been replaced by contmeporary brass handles, locks have been inserted and mahogany escutcheons fitted at a later date; the feet have been replaced by scarfed feet in mahogany flanking an apron piece inlaid in mahogany and with stringing in dark and light woods; the bulk has been replaced and fitted with plyboard; the front of the bureau is inlaid with bog oak; the whole piece is much lighter than usual owing to over-zealous cleaning c.1950; the original colour is retained under rim of flap and in various other corners of the piece.
