Hadrian sestertius
A brass sestertius of Hadrian, minted in Rome in AD 130-138. The reverse depicts the Emperor's address (adlocutio). Hadrian standing on a low platform while he addresses three soldiers, identified by the inscription as the "army of Britain" (EXERC[ITVS] BRITANN[ICVS]). Hadrian had visited Britain in AD 122.
