Jug

Dillwyn & Co., Cambrian Pottery (1811 - 1817 and 1824 - 1850)

Jug, earthenware, in the shape of an ancient Greek oenochoe, flat base, globular body sloping inwards at the shoulder then rising straight upwards at the neck before flaring out to a trefoil mouth with two small spouts to either side of the upper terminal of the handle, plain high loop handle; the decoration reserved against a black enamel ground so that the red earthenware body is revealed, this then transfer-printed in black with to the body three female figures clad in flowing draperies and dancing hand-in-hand, the figure to the far left holds a wreath, border to the shoulder of Greek key-shapes, chevron border to the exterior lip-rim.
