Snuff box and cover

Snuff-box, soft-paste porcelain, slightly bombé form with flat base, bulbous sides sloping inwards at the shoulder, fitted with a gilt-base metal lip-rim, round very slightly domed cover, the cover fitted with a gilt-base metal rim rising up to a prominent lobe to one side, to the other side the rim of the cover joined to the lip-rim of the box by a hinge; painted in polychrome enamels with to the top of the cover a small harbour scene showing a small boat drawn up to a quayside with figures and a loading crane attached to a stone tower, a number of bales and barrels in the foreground, the scene enclosed within a cartouche of iron-red scrolls, the exterior sides and base of the box decorated with panels of polychrome naturalistic flowers enclosed by cartouches of intertwining iron-red scrolls, a semi-circular section of the box has been cracked and repaired.
