Roman shale bead
This Roman tubular form shale bead is nearly complete with just some end chipping.
Its surface is decorated with grooves to define ribs running around the diameter. It is opaque and dark grey.
The tubular form is cylindrical in shape with a small hole running through the middle. Simiar examples have been found at Colchester from cemetery contexts dated from c.AD 320 - 450.
The tubular bead style is of Guido (1978)
