Super Furry Animals, backstage at the Coal Exchange, Cardiff (20th November 2009)

KEYWORTH, Sophie (Photographer)

Formed in Cardiff in 1993, Super Furry Animals are an indie rock band comprised of (from left to right) Guto Pryce, Dafydd Ieuan, Huw ‘Bunf’ Bunford, Cian Ciaran and Gruff Rhys. Their experimental music, performed in both Welsh and English, put them at the forefront of the Cool Cymru movement that exploded in the 1990s. In 2009, they played a one-off hometown event at Cardiff’s Coal Exchange - once the epicentre of the global coal trade. It is said the first ever million-pound deal was agreed here at the beginning of the 20th century. Photographer Sophie Keyworth captured the band relaxing backstage at the iconic venue.
