Sampler

Price, Martha (Embroiderer)

LINEN, embroidered with coloured silks in cross and chain stitches. At the top, between two flowering plants in pots, are two beehives with bees, beneath an arch of Canterbury bells and other flowers. In the middle is the following verse:

"Instruct me, Lord, to lift my heart To thee, in praise and prayer. And love and gratitude impart For every good I share."

Below is a house within a fenced garden with flower beds and trees. At the bottom is the inscription: "Martha Price aged 11, 1841". There is a border of leafy and floral stems.
