Sergeant Glyn Jones of the Cardiff Dock division of the British Transport Police, signing the visitor's book at the Lord Mayor's Parlour, Cardiff, watched by Alderman T.E. Merrels, Lord Mayor of Cardiff. Sergeant Jones was there to accept the Royal Humane Society Testimonial in recognition of an incident where he rescued a woman from the East Lock, Cardiff.
Photograph and article published in 'DOCKS' magazine, September/October 1970: 'On a bitterly cold morning in March (1970) Sergeant Jones stripped off his jacket and went to the assistance of a woman who had been spotted floating on her back in the freezing waters of the East Dock. With considerable difficulty, Sergeant Jones managed to get a lifebelt around the woman and although hampered by the steep walls of the lock, he managed to get her ashore where she later recovered.'
