White shirt with centre front opening, about 1839. Centre back collar inscribed with black ink: 'Catherine Dover. September 28th No VI 1839'. Hand-stitched.
Three button fastenings along the upper part of the opening. Tall collar edged with frill. Buttons consist of a metal ring covered with stitching. Front and back panels of the shirt are gathered. Sleeves are gathered at shoulders and at cuffs. Cuffs are narrow (2.8cm wide), but have long extended frills aedged with lace (frill including lace 8cm). Button fastening on cuff. Square underarm inserts. Triangular inserts on top of shoulder near collar.
