Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Long-case clock made by Samuel Roberts of Llanfair Caereinion, Montgomeryshire in 1776. It's a unique piece that demonstrates the craftmanship of Roberts as a clockmaker who made the whole mechanism and dial. The oak case was made by local carpenter, John Lloyd, from Llanfihangel-yng-Ngwynfa. It's known as the 'Wern Lwyd clock' as it was discovered in the farmhouse of that name in Berriew, Montgomershire during the 1940s.
Long case; 8-day movement, with 6 bell chiming mechanism; arched brass dial with phases of moon in arch; calender indicator in chapter ring; cast brass rococo decoration in spandrels; engraved with 2 inscriptions and makers name; oak case with 2 fluted column supports; trunk door inlaid with walnut, with button to fasten; lower trunk has been cut down; hood has 2 turned supports and is surmounted by 3 brass medallions (later additions) depicting Nelson, Pitt and George III.
