Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Upright turned pole fitted into a circular dome base, with steel band around base, cut through from side to form four high arches. Turned cross-bar, with grip handle on one end, fitted through slot near top of pole.
These 19th century implements were used widely throughout Wales and were operated in wooden or zinc tubs. The plunging, stirring, pounding actions assisted in working the soapy water though the clothes and in ridding them of dirt.
