Seal impression: Collegiate churches
Within a bipartite niche under rounded arches, dext. St. Stephen in dalmatic, holding a Book of the Gospels and three stones (symbolic of his martyrdom). Before him kneel five suppliants (for the Dean and Chapter). In smaller niches above, dext. the Blessed Virgin seated supporting Her Child: sin. St John the Evangelist holding his symbols, a palm branch and a wheel upon which an eagle rising contourny. In base, a shield: the royal arms: quarterly 1. and 4. FRANCE (Ancient), 2. and 3. ENGLAND, (for Edward III who established the collgiate foundation, and who completed the chapel in 1363).
