Woman's overall coat. Issued by the War Department and worn in a Royal Ordnance Factory in Aberfan, 1942. Manufactured by J & N Goldberg Ltd.
Knee-length, long-sleeved, made from cream wool serge (twill), with blue plastic buttons. Fastening of seven buttons from shoulder down front opening. One plastic button on each 3.8cm deep cuff (sleeve has six pleats into cuff). Cuffs are made from one folded strip of fabric which encapsulates the bottom edge of the sleeve. High round neckline, small stand-up/bound collar. Waist ties of same fabric stitched to centre-front edges. Darts from shoulders at front, back cut as Princess line (in two panels with centre-back seam). Sleeves also made from two pieces. All machine stitched using white thread. Some stitching has become mangled in the seam.
