Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Carved oak chest originally from Llanofer, Monmouthshire. About 1630-60.
The carving on this oak chest incorporates many different designs; the semi-circular palms across the top rail is a design often seen on Welsh carved woodwork from the 1600s. The two front and side panels consist of a repeated scroll motif with leaves and smaller carved circles. It originates from Llanofer, Monmouthshire, south-east Wales, an area with a rich tradition of wood-carving. Date c.1630-60.
