Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
LINEN, embroidered with coloured silks in cross stitch. Divided into three horizontal compartments by zig-zag and wavy stems. In the first compartment, in two rows commencing with a cross, are Gothic letters of the alphabet and numerals to 9; in the second, in two rows commencing with a cross, are Roman capital letters of the alphabet; the third compartment contains detached designs including boat, cross, windmill, flowering plants, bird in cage, two human figures bearing between them a ?tub suspended from a bar, and the inscription: "annette vanovtryve. / fait a brvges le 28 juillet 1798". There is a narrow geometric border. Unfinished.
Note, The human figures should be compared with those on two other samplers (accession numbers: 20.254.19 & 20.254.36)
