Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
This is a well preserved skeleton with over 75% completeness.
The individual was an adut (25-45 years old) who was male. He was 156.85cm tall.
He was buried in an extended prone position with his hands placed behind his back. The burial was oriented East-West and showed signs of having had a coffin.
The remains were Radiocarbon dated to 239-405 cal AD.
His skeleton showed evidence of trauma in pronounced linea aspera of the right femur which has been attributed to posture habits. Entheseal changes on the patellae and the tuber of the calcanei, these are attributed to intensive physical activity. He also had porotic hypertosis, spinal and extraspinal degenerative joint disease.
His teeth showed evidence of calculus, caries, periodontal diseas, dental abscess and ante-mortem tooth loss. He also had signs of dental enamel hypoplasia, indiciating early childhood stress.
