Flame lamp re-lighting unit used at Tirbach Colliery, about 1900.
Used to relight flame safety lamps underground, the relighter is shown open with a lamp in position. To operate, the outer cover is lifted so that the viewing 'eye' is opposite the lamp wick and the hole for the generating handle, in the inner cover, is exposed. When the lamp is lit, the generating handle must be removed before the outer cover can be lowered.
