Jug

Evans, D.J. & Co., Cambrian Pottery (1862 - 1870)

Jug, earthenware, pear-shaped body, tapering at shoulder, ending in slightly everted lip-rim with upright raised spout, high-loop handle, reeded; transfer printed in brown, overpainted with green, iron red, yellow and puce, on one side with three pheasant-type birds and the head of a wolf-type animal appearing from foliage, on the other side two conventional birds with iron red, puce and yellow colouring to their plumage, perching on branches, with a large palm tree to one side and a tropical background, a running shamrock leaf border to lip-rim, issuing sprays of exotic foliage with iron red flowers and small parrot-type birds interspersed in it, running shamrock border to the interior lip-rim, issuing a pendulate line and dot pattern, running shamrock border to handle.
