Brougham

Morgan & Co. Ltd. (Manufacturer)

Bow-fronted brougham carriage with two seating areas facing each other, curved glass in front panel, box for driver at front, upholstered with blue Melton cloth. Bodywork has springs and iron-banded wheels painted brown and black with red lining. 2 brackets for lamps and 1 whip holder at front. Dynevor coronet painted on each door. Metal footstep attached below each door. Plated wheel hubs with maker's stamp.

Interior Interior upholstered with dark blue leather, deeply buttoned with leather covered buttons. Trimmings include blue silk and wool broad lace with a trellis design and simple blue silk pasting lace. The front panel has a long rectangular shaped seat cushion, 3 upper panels and a narrow edging strip all made from quilted leather, there is seaming lace along the edge of the seat cushion. The back wall of the coach has an upper panel with a small rear window cover and back squab below. The back seat is a rectangular shaped cushion with pasting lace around the edge. The side panels are made in one piece, quilted in the same way as the other sections, there is broad lace along the top edge and pillar holders between the panel and the door.

The door frames are trimmed with blue wool; the lower panels are quilted leather and the edges are covered with broad lace. There are 4 silk blinds (one has become detached) on metal rollers they are attached to the ceiling with metal fixings and operated by twisted blue silk cords. There are wooden shutters on the door windows only. Each blind has a blue silk tassel sewn to the bottom edge in the centre. The door windows are raised and lowered by means of fringed fabric pull/glass string made form broad lace with a leather backing, and a tassel on the bottom end.

The ceiling is lined with blue wool and the top edges are trimmed with broad lace. The floor of the coach is coated wood in the centre with plain navy blue wool carpet on the thresholds and a strip on each side against the side of the seats.

The driver’s seat on the exterior of the coach is also textile, there is a metal frame with a hard rectangular shaped seat covered in navy wool, and there is a flap of the same wool hanging down from the edge of the seat. The right side of the seat is raised up with a sloped, upholstered seat pad, also covered in navy wool.
