Archaeological excavation at Hafod foundry, Swansea, 21 August 2015. Looking NW at an excavated casting pit in the NW end of the central portion of the main foundry building. The pit is spanned by a length of Barlow rail right of centre. Further casting pits within the foundry were not as completely excavated. Theses pits, in conjunction with the one confirmed reverbatory furnace (at the west end of the foundry) and the possible second reverbatory furnace (at the east end of the foundry strongly suggest that the foundry specialised in casting rolls for rolling mills. See 2015.80/8 for this pit at an earlier stage of excavation.
