Roman painted wall plaster
A fragment of white wall plaster with a purple-red 7mm stripe. A finger-nail scrape runs diagonally across, covered in its lower part by a thick, dirty impasto. This mark was made whilst the underlying plaster was still wet but after the colour had been applied. The technique used was, evidently, true fresco
