black apron made from 2 widths of fabric joined with a vertical seam down the centre. The width from selvage to selvage is 58cm. The side edges of the apron are selvages. The fabric has a subtle check pattern made with black wool yarns and cream cotton warps. There is a c. 1.4cm wide turn-back at the lower hem. The upper edge is gathered and encapsulated in-between a black cotton twill waistband. The ties are made from 3.3cm wide black herringbone twill tape which have a small stitched turn-back at the ends. There is a vertical tuck at the centre front of the waistband. The apron has a 8cm wide horizontal tuck in line with the lower edge. The pattern of the weave changes 9cm above the lower edge (starting below the tuck) where the check pattern is replaced by two 1.1cm wide horizontal patterned stripes and narrow (0.3cm wide) vertical stripes (= 6 cream cotton warps).
