School exercise book used by Marylyn Minett in Aberfan from 8 September 1965 to 4 July 1966. Marylyn was ten years old when she was killed in her classroom in Pantglas Junior School Aberfan on 21 October 1966. Her seven-year-old brother, Carl, was also killed. At 9:13 that Friday morning thousands of tonnes of black coal waste from an unstable tip slid down the mountain. It instantly engulfed Pantglas Junior School and parts of the village killing a total of 116 children and 28 adults. The school exercise book issued by the County Borough Council of Merthyr Tydfil has Marylyn Minett's name on the cover in her handwriting with her class, '3W'. This exercise book was used in class by Marylyn to write 'News' from local to global events.
