Wheelchair
Folding wheelchair used by David Phillips (1875-1949) from around the1920s up to his death in 1949, in Hermon, west Wales. David or 'Dafi', was born with cerebral palsy and was cared for by his siblings in later life, mainly his two sisters, Elsath and Sarah. He also had a brother born with CP, who died aged 19. The wheelchair is made from a metal frame with a cotton canvas covering to the back and seat and padded armrests. The folding wooden footrest has the name of the model on each side: 'The Peero Invalid Chair'. This type of collapsible wheelchair would have been used in the period before the establishment of the NHS.
