ss TAXIARCHIS (4221gt) : Built 1913 by Richardson, Duck & Co., at Thornaby, Stockton-on-Tees as CALDY for Fargrove Steam Navigation Co Ltd (Farrar, Groves) London. 1918 – Sold to J.C.Gould & Co., and renamed GRELCALDY (managed by Griffiths, Lewis & Co., Cardiff). 1931 – Sold to Lemos Bros. of Syra, Greece, and renamed TAXIARCHIS. She struck the Westscar rocks on the afternoon of 14 January 1952 while on a passage in ballast from Lieth to the Black Sea. Attempts were made to refloat her but she was holed beyond repair. Her crew of 28 were taken off and she was eventually beached at Redcar, where T.W.Ward’s of Sheffield dismantled her for scrap.
