Large protest banner made by members of CYLCH (Cymdeithas Lesbiaid a Hoywon Cymraeg eu Hiaith) - a society for Welsh speaking gay and lesbian people. This banner was used by CYLCH in a demonstration (organised by NUS GaySoc) against Section 28 outside Aberystwyth Town Hall, 14 February 1991. The slogan is a play on words, and roughly translates as “your clauses make us sick”.
Made from a cream coloured plain woven cotton bedsheet. Weave count weft=30 warp=30 selvedges on the longest sides (top and bottom of banner). The proper right side is turned and machine sewn in pink thread along the side and at the ends. Probably done before the sheet was made into a banner. The edge has also been turned back and hand sewn (over-stitch) with white cotton thread; the top corner (PR) is scrunched up and folded over and wrapped with a length of white elastic thread. The proper left side is also machine sewn in pink thread. It has also been turned back but more neatly than the other side. It is hand sewn in white thread using a rough blanket stitch. The top corner (PL) has been folded over and tacked down. There is also a hole torn in the sheet near the corner. The slogan was made using pencil initially, then overpainted in bright pink spray paint and green paint applied with a brush. The slogan is in capital letters approx 25cm high.
