Medieval ceramic floor tile

Lewis Group 16 number 200 Slip-on impression. Huntsman wearing cloak and hood with head towards left, sounding a horn, within a cusped border; tree to left.

The tile, in combination with tiles 63.469/17 & 18 (which are all joined together), depicts a hunting scene of two hunting dogs bringing down a runaway stag, closely pursued by the rest of the pack of dogs (talbots), while the kennel-man in charge of the relay of dogs blows a warning signal on his horn which is slung on a baldrick around his neck. The tiles are glazed and partially restored with plaster of paris. The length of 408mm recorded in this entry is of the three tiles joined together

Tile with slip-on impression from Neath Abbey showing a stag hunt.
