Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
A moderately preserved remains of an individual inhumantion burial from the Roman era.
The person was a young adult male between 17-25 years old and he was 172.32 cm tall, making him 3cm above average heights of the time.
He was buried in an extended prone position with his hands placed beneath his pelvis. His body was orientated south-north.
SK16.03 is the only individual from the Roman burials to have grave goods. They indcluded a silver crossbow brooch, an iron sword with wooden sheath and hobnails from footwear. There were also various larger nails found around the grave, indicating he was buried in a coffin.
He exhibits hypotrochanteric fossa, which is a depression within the skull and thought to be the result of mechanical stress caused by physical activity.
