Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Red cotton handkerchief, partially made by a child who died at seven years of age in about 1900. Her parents were monoglot Welsh speakers. The handkerchief is printed with an image of a young girl holding a book, accompanied by the inscription 'I WOULD LIKE TO GOOD TO SCHOOL'.

The girl is wearing a hat, red dress, striped stockings and red shoes. The image is set against a cream background which has a geometric inner frame and an outer frame of plain red. Letters ABCD are in all four corners of the inner frame. Text is arranged on either side of the girl. The cream background is decorated with red dots.
Selvage along proper left side edge, raw/unfinished edge along top, proper right edge: narrow double turnback held in place with running stitches, bottom edge: narrow double turnback held in place with running stitches as well as small overcast stitches (for most of its length - apart from a c. 8cm long section towards the PR corner). All stitches using off white cotton thread.
