This wheel was used to throw pots at Ewenny Pottery up until the 1930s. It was made by the village blacksmith. The potter controlled it using his left foot while he sat on the small wooden seat. Small pots could be spun at a constant speed. Large pots were too heavy and the treadle had to be spun with the help of a boy who ‘pulled the wheel’.
Restored wooden framework with original wooden turntable, diameter 44cm, and iron driving wheel, diameter 97cm. Treadle action wheel working on a cranked spindle.
