Copper alloy decorative mount, probably of Roman date The mount is of form and is complete (with a diameter of 42.4mm and a weight of 22.3g). There is a slight rim around the edge, before an internal ridge (of 12mm diameter and 4.5mm deep). The mount has a central raised boss (of 21.0mm diameter and giving a depth of 7.6mm) with a concave or dished centre (11.7mm diameter and 3.0mm deep). Around the edge of the apex is a raised rim border. No applied decoration is discernible on the mount. The underside is unfinished and gently dished. Near but placed off-centre is an integral attachment stud of rectangular section (4.0mm x 3.3mm and 3.8mm high and giving an overall depth of 7.8mm). There is the suggestion of casting seams evident on the reverse. The surface has a dark-green patina with some bright-green corrosion.
The mount is somewhat difficult to closely parallel although the style and technology are broadly consistent with Roman metalwork and may have been used for decorating furniture or similar.
