Replica medieval church bell, specially commissioned for use in St Teilo’s church. The original (medieval) bell was replaced by a new bell in 1728, cast at the Evans foundry in Chepstow. This latter bell disappeared during the early 1970s when the church finally closed its doors.
The design of the replica bell is based on medieval bell at St Illtyd’s church, Llantwit Major. It was cast by Taylors Eayre & Smith, Loughborough, Leics, on 9 November 2006. Members of the Museum’s Historic Buildings Unit were present. The bell bears the Latin text SANCTE?TELIAVE?ORA?PRO?NOBIS?? (Saint Teilo pray for us) around the crown.
