Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
This piece, too, has been damaged and reused with a make-shift repair. The repair and reuse of the lid seems to have involved turning it over so that the original underside became uppermost. There is no trace of the original hinge leaf though there is a slight thickening of the metal at the top centre of the lid. A shaft has been attached through what must have been the original knob hole, to form a lever for lifting the lid. There is a pair of rivet holes close to the hinge position and the remains of the head of a further rivet perhaps used to effect some sort of replacement hinge arrangement. Originaly the lid was roughly heart-shaped and elegant in form. The repair, effected to reuse the piece, is crude and clumsy.
