Roman pottery bottle
A locally made bottle, textured with horizontal lines and made of orange fabric with white slip. It has a narrow neck and and extremely narrow convex base. Late 1st – early 2nd century A.D.
Classed as an unguent bottle, it may have been used to hold perfumes or perfumed oil. Since the base is so rounded that it cannot stand up, it must have been hung up for instance from a belt on a leather thong for use in the baths.
