Acquired by the Museum in 1918 from Edward Lovett, a folklorist and collector from Croydon. The word ‘WAR’ as been scored into the cross bar in the upper part of the anchor. The numbers 14 and 17 are scored into the two tips of the anchor. The lower centre still bears the engraved inscription that identifies it as a former bullet: ‘G 5 VII’.
