Red melton cloth cutaway coat, 1770s. Worn by Sir Watkin Williams-Wynn, 4th Baronet (1749-89).
High folded-over collar. Deep turned-back cuffs. Pink-red silk lining (twill) in body of coat, linen lining in sleeves. Three hook and eye fastenings at neck to chest. Three slits at back of skirts. Embroidered decoration around collar edge, cuff edges, coat front edges and slits at back. Four ribbed silk covered buttons at back. Embroidery consists of gold and silver sequins and metal purl and silk threads, with motifs of bows, swags and tassels.
