Quilt

Wholecloth quilt made by Gwen Davies (nee Jenkins) of Cymer, Rhondda, at a quilting class held in Horeb Chapel during the 1950s. Mrs Davies was a originally from Mount Pleasant. Before marriage, she worked in the Porth CWS, but subsequently became a homemaker. She later worked as a 'dinner lady' at Porth Secondary School.

Made from five pieces of yellow cotton and synthetic fibre blend. The pieces are joined together with a sewing machine with two vertical seams and two horizontal seams in the centre and near the top. The edges are turned and in and top stitched with quilting stitches. The filling is not visible, but it is likely to be soft cotton wadding. The back is made from five pieces of plain woven printed cotton. The print features a repeating and stylised yellow rose design on a grey background. Quilting design features a central circle with four leaves and trellis filling, inside a square filled with a wineglass pattern. There is a band at the top and bottom with leaves and trellis surrounded by a thinner border of diamonds. The outer border features two and a half rows of wineglass motifs.
