Monmouthshire County rugby cap won by Tommy H. Vile.

Rugby cap of blue silk velvet, crown constructed of 8 triangular sections (seams covered with narrow metal braid). Centre: domed button covered with metal purl. Metal thread cord wound round button and has metal purl tassle at end.

Heraldic shield shape appliquéed to centre front. Consisting of 3x white chevrons crossed through by a horizontal red stripe, all on light blue ground and surrounded by 2 lines of dark blue cord. Below are 3 letters embroidered in white silk: 'M.F.C' Lower edge of cap and of peak are trimmed with metal braid (width: 1.4cm) Peak is stiffened (card?)

Cap is lined with yellow cotton (wefts) and silk (warps) twill (warp faced). Towards the centre of the crown, the lining is pleated to accommodate the narrowing shape. It is stitched to a flat oval section (11.2x12cm) This oval has 4 sets of 3 lines of machine stitches stitched in a diamond pattern which encloses the maker's label (printed in black) This is framed by a narrow black border and the Royal Coat of Arms above.
