In September 2006 Burberry Limited announced the closure of its factory in Treorchy (which made polo shirts for the company) to switch production to China. Workers, politicians and celebrities mounted a campaign to reverse the decision, but the plant finally closed in March 2007. Over 300 jobs were lost.
