Costrel
Costrel, greyish buff-coloured earthenware, in the form of a barrel set on its side with a rounded spreading foot-rim to the base and to the top a short neck and spout with twin loop handles to either side, to the front of the body to one side of the neck a short suction spout with below an applied square device with a diaper pattern, vases and flower heads, one end of the bidy ornamented with the applied arms of France; decorated all over with green, blue and brown washes under the glaze to create a tortoiseshell effect. The glaze flaked off in places.
