Postcard designed by Paul Peter Piech for the El Salvador Solidarity Campaign, 1980s. Part of a set of six bought at the time by Alun Burge.
The artist Paul Peter Piech (1920-96) produced a series of cards for the El Salvador and Guatemala solidarity campaigns of the 1980s. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he studied art and worked in advertising. During the Second World War, while with the US Army Air Force, he was posted to Cardiff where he met and married Irene Tomkins. Staying in Britain, he continued his artistic training at Chelsea College of Art under Swansea-born Ceri Richards. A committed political campaigner, he used his skills for the causes he supported.
